On 1/5/2020 (Sunday), I had a practice meet. What that is, is a meet that takes the place of your usual practice. It is not meant for PR’s or for any glory it is just so that you can practice your technique in a low intensity/low power/low-speed environment.
I went into this meet like I do any meet. I knew that I wanted to execute my training and learn how to go with the flow. sorta… this was only because I was given limited information about the meet and I was trying so hard not to be a control freak.
Even with that, I really enjoyed being in a competitive atmosphere again and being out at the track. It has been a couple of months since my last meet and it was nice to go out there and be amongst people young and old going after their goals.
Don’t get me wrong, competing at practice is fun but nothing compares to the thrill of a meet. Seriously, it’s on a whole new level, especially as the meets get bigger.
I went from a half approach, which for me is 5 right steps, and leaped a jump of 39″2 from behind the board (which for non-trackies means if I was on the board I would have jumped roughly 40 feet // they only mark from the white line) . I made some major technical errors that I’m looking forward to working on this week at practice.
Like whipping my arms into shape. haha.
I feel like I should give you some context to explain the importance of me even giving you an update. Last year at my first meet from a full approach (that is 9 right steps) I jumped 40 feet.
So it’s safe to say that with all my mistakes I still jumped way farther than I did at the beginning of the season last year.
All in all, I really am happy to see improvement cause it really does help you believe in your abilities and your coach and your training. It puts things into perspective and really makes me excited to continue improving and going after my goals
Next practice meet: Sunday 1/12/20
Signing off,
Domonique
