3 Vitamin Supplements You Need To Be Taking

Vitamin supplements get a weird rep. Either people tell you that you should be taking 5 billion different supplements or they tell you that they are a scam and you shouldn’t do it.

I here to be that middle ground person and let you know that there are probably only 3 vitamins you really need to consider taking, as a woman, order to have your body consistently at it’s best.

As an athlete and someone who regularly works out a ton, my body needs a variety of nutrients that may not sufficiently found in my diet. Seriously, even if I try my hardest to get all my vitamins in with my diet…it’s not that easy. On a slightly lower level, the average human being and above-average human that gets in regular exercise also need supplements to properly take in a sufficient amount of nutrients for your body to survive and function efficiently. Chances are unless you have a super, and I mean SUPER, on-point with your diet or nutrition schedule, you are lacking certain vitamins throughout

So I wanted to put together the 3 Vitamins you should have readily have on deck if you are living an active lifestyle or exercise regularly. Unfortunately, this is tailored towards women, on the basis that as a female we need different supplements than our male counterparts. And well…I can’t really tell you what I guy needs without diving into more research first.

Let’s get into it! First up we have…

Multivitamin

It goes without saying that we all need a multi-vitamin in our lives. If you do a google search, you are sure to find that multi-vitamins are recommended as a necessary vital vitamin to take when trying to live a healthy life. For starters, taking a daily multivitamin supplement can increase your energy levels. This is because you are giving your body the necessary nutrients to perform harder tasks and/or conserve energy better on simpler tasks. A multivitamin can also improve your mood more constantly. As well as, reduce stress and anxiety just based on the minerals they have, oftentimes that is vitamin B and Magnesium. A good multivitamin should help you fill in the gaps in your current diet and provide you with some seemingly subtle health benefits.

The one I use is linked here — Multivitamin

Iron

Let’s talk about iron. As women during our menstrual cycle, we lose about 1mg of iron a day during our period. Which is why the most common deficiency in women. I use this iron supplement linked here. This is because I know that I am deficient in iron and that causes my feet to be cold and recovery to be harder after an intense workout. I started taking it along with eating more iron-rich foods such as spinach and salmon and I watched my iron levels shoot up. That specific supplement works well because it also has vitamin C in it. Which, pro-tip, Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron and you won’t be constipated. So I would highly recommend it. I have also tried the one that is recommended by the doctor (they kind of look like green m&m’s ) and well I had a lot of issues using the bathroom and pain in my stomach if I took it without eating.

Vitamin D

With an increase of physical activity, there is a natural increase in stress that we are putting on our bones, joints, and tendons. So it’s important that we are allowing our body to maintain and support healthy levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D comes in hand because it allows your body to sustain and absorb more calcium then it can without it. You also have increased resistance to certain diseases.

I wanted to add this one in as well because of isolation. While there has been an increase in places and outdoor spaces opening up in the united states, we’ve been inside for a long time. I mean hey, we need the sun to be happy because it gives us vitamin D. So I figured it was super important to include that so that you were aware of the potential amount of vitamin D you might be lacking.

Although this post is brief, I take these supplements every day knowing that my daily diet sometimes lacks the vitamins I need in order to perform at my best. While I understand that not everybody is an athlete, I think that in the process of loving our bodies and wanting it to be the best it can be, we have to think about how it functions. If our body is not able to function efficiently, it will, in the end, have to put in more work to live. That stress that we put on our body hurts us later on in life.

So continue to honor your body, love your body, and treat it with the respect it deserves. I linked each of the supplements and I would love to know about other vitamins you take daily!

Signing off,

Domonique
