Mentality + Self Care

A Message for Those Who are Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now

This week’s post is a little different. It is more of a big RED FLASHING sign that is telling you that

REST IS PRODUCTIVE TOO!

I wanted to write to the people who might be feeling overwhelmed with the increased amount of “perceived” free time we are currently having. I say perceived in quotations because the time has always been there, we are just more conscious of it now. I felt like it was important to get this message out that resting/taking a break is still productivity.

Your body and mind, even if you might not be experiencing any stress at this moment, love to rest. It loves to take a moment to chill out. Social media has really been bombarding us with all of these suggestions, that we should be doing WAY more than we actually need to.

For example, there is no need for you to go and try to start a business just because you’re at home. If you weren’t planning on doing so before, just because someone posted TOP 10 BUSINESSES TO START DURING QUARANTINE, doesn’t mean you have to. AND if you leave quarantine and you haven’t opened some online shop selling blue light glasses… you will be OKAY!

The silver lining is that, with all the craziness that is being pumped out by the media, we can finally attempt to disconnect and relax. We can enjoy time with our family, use technology to truly connect with those we haven’t talked to in a while and those we talk to every day. We can rest and practice self-care without the wear and tear of the everyday grind.

If you don’t know where to start, I hope these 3 self-care tips I’ve been using will help you wind down and enjoy this brief period of weird peace.

TIP 1: Rewatch your favorite Childhood TV show!

The other day I decided that I was going to rewatch my favorite childhood TV show which is called Mew Mew Power. It’s literally about a magical cat girl who fights crime with her friends. Even though the animation is bad, the mere fact that I am watching something that brought a smile to my face when I was young brings back so many happy memories and nostalgia. It has been relaxing and chill. It definitely takes my mind away from the chaos and brings me to a positive space.

TIP 2: Facetiming my friends/family to do workouts together.

This has been something that really helps me continue training and makes working out so much easier. While we’re exercising, we talk about so many fun things. It not only has deepened our connection but it also helps me get through some task that might seem mentally taxing.

TIP 3: Listening to an audiobook while I take a shower

I spend probably too much time in the shower and in the bathroom area on any given day. So instead of turning on music, since that was getting a little old for me, I turn on one of my favorite books that I have in my audible account. Then go to a chapter I enjoy and play it. I know that not everyone has this luxury but books are a great escape. Whether you are reading them or listening.

The definition of resting varies from person to person. I think for now its best do continue to do the things you love and find time to also do absolutely nothing and be okay with that. Don’t let social media force you to add things to your routine that you weren’t already inclined to do in the first place.

Enjoy this time, this life. Stay strong, stay safe and happy!

Love you…signing off,

Domonique
