Is it just me or are these quarantine snacks slowly becoming breakfast, lunch, and dinner? For me, that becomes a GREATER possibility on days where training is light. So this past week, I decided to correct that and take a deeper look into my habits and look to bring back some of the habits I used to have before the quarantine.
If you think of your body like a temple, then you have to honor it by giving it the care it needs to grow and be great. ESPECIALLY, during times like these. I mean, it is the LEAST we could do for ourselves.
Today I present to you 4 best ways to take care of your body at home.
Tip 1: Get some berries or fruit!
If you are anything like me, the first snack you are going to grab is Tostitos (hint of lime)… because they are like crack! Then basically finish the entire bag because you lack the self-control to say no to the salty limey goodness. Have no fear. Since the bag is complete and you probably have to go buy another one, grab some berries or fruit instead. My favorite snacking item outside of those chips are blackberries. When I know I probably consumed way to much salt for my body to stay hydrated and happy. Blackberries are the first thing I turn to. Fruit will ultimately make you and your body feel happy and give you a nice switch up from the salt.
Tip 2: GO TO BED!
My sleep schedule has been whack. I feel like I am in high school again staying up late at night and waking up just in enough time to not be late for school. What I learned early on during my time as a high school athlete and then MORE so as a college athlete, is that when you lack sleep or you fall off your schedule, your body changes. This can be in a number of different ways. One, you are more susceptible to getting sick. Which is now scarier than ever! Two, this can lead to weight gain. So if you are just starting off your fitness journey during quarantine and you are wondering why you aren’t seeing any results it could be because your sleeping schedule is a little wonky.
Tip 3: Drink lots of water
This is probably my most used tip across the board because water literally does wonders for your body. As an avid coffee drinker, I sometimes dream of coffee is just as hydrating as water so that I could consume it all day. However, that is not the case and that is completely and totally fine (i guess). Since we are in the house it is a lot harder to drink water when there are so many other things to drink in the house. So give it a go. I wrote an entire blog post about tips on how to stay hydrated! So I will link that here! Something outside of the tips that I linked that motivated me to drink water is buying a new water bottle. I just bought one and my consumption is higher in the past 2 weeks.
Tip 4: Reduce that stress
A lot is happening in our world right now. Especially with the death of an innocent black jogger, Ahbrey Ahmaud, and our stay at home orders being extended for probably another month or two. It is now more important than ever to reduce some of the stress you are holding on. Prolonged stress can lead to serious health problems and complications later on in life. While some stress is not easy to get rid of and requires systematic changes in our society other small stressors can be relieved by simply taking time for your self. Try taking a small break to read a book, play a game (I’m binge playing candy crush), and take a moment for yourself. This is a hard time, so try not to be too hard on yourself.
and with that…I hope that these tips helped you in some way or inspired you to think of some of your own ideas on how to take care of yourself. It’s about honoring your body and treating it with the love and respect it deserves.
