Should you Drink Coffee Before your Workouts?

If you are dying to have better workouts or training sessions but don’t want to go down the rabbit hole of finding out what substances are legal. You don’t have to look any further than your pantry or your nearest Dunkin. Coffee might very well be your answer.

As an athlete, it is something that I consume often in order to enhance my performance legally and safely. Coffee contains caffeine, which if you weren’t aware is a nervous system stimulant and the world’s most widely consumed psychoactive drug.

Don’t be scared, it’s safe and best used in moderation. Coffee addictions are real, even I fall in and out of it.

In either case, ladies and gents, coffee can do wonders in making your fitness and health journey 10x better than before.

If you are intrigued, follow me as I list you 3 reasons why you should drink coffee before your workouts.

Reason 1: Increases Performance

I bet you read that and was like “Duh, Dom! Of course, it does”. HOWEVER, what you probably don’t know is HOW exactly it does that. The caffeine inside coffee works to increase your heart rate which inadvertently reduces fatigue and promotes alertness. This effect of caffeine consumption allows you to perform your workout more effectively and more efficiently. Giving you an opportunity to maximize all your efforts and give an output that beneficial to your fitness growth.

Reason 2: Boost Metabolism

You heard that right! Coffee can boost your metabolism. How does it do so, you may ask. Well easy…sorta. The rate at which you burn calories is called the metabolic rate. Which to be less sciency basically means for you is that when you drink coffee the caffeine boosts your body’s ability to burn calories at a faster rate...Simple…

Reason 3: Improves Focus

You’re probably wondering what’s improved focus got to do with anything. Well, my favorite people, it makes all the difference. If you are able to focus better on your workout then you will have more efficiency getting through the workout. Therefore, allowing your muscle groups to work and react better to the work you are putting in. Plus, you will also finish your workout faster.

and who doesn’t love leaving the gym earlier than expected?

***I must warn you though, while all the benefits of drinking coffee are amazing and downright magical there is … dare I say…a catch. Coffee is a laxative and can be dehydrating soooooooooo while you are enjoying your cup of joe make sure you keep drinking water.***
