This past week, I decided that I wanted to drink a gallon of water every day for an entire week. My reasoning was because, through all the stress and uncertainty from the week before, I only drank ice coffee.
Not good, I know. My water intake was very very low. I also heard that drinking a gallon of water a day had many benefits.
Such as :
1. Boost your energy level
2. Get’s rid of the toxins in your body
3. Make you less hungry
4. Maintain and/or lose bodyweight
So through all of this, I figured, now that I’m in quarantine, this might time to test this out.
Here is what you need to start this challenge –
1. A 32-ounce bottle of water or more
2. some discipline
3. a schedule
So here is how it went. –> the video is below if you rather watch my reactions and thoughts then read!
Monday:
All was going well. I started drinking my water early in the morning. I started off by chugging as much as I could as soon as I woke up. I felt like I was drinking a lot of water but I was determined to finish drinking it. I still wanted to drink coffee, but I refrained because I knew I had to drink all this water. Talk about self-control! By 9 pm I was done drinking all the water I needed to drink for the night. I honestly was so proud of myself for keeping a good schedule.
Tuesday:
Tuesday started off slightly the same as Monday. I drank around 12 ounces during my morning chug. I started to get kind of lazy throughout the day. However, I still manage to finish my water intake at a decent time. I honestly thought this week was going to be a breeze after this day. I finish at a normal time throughout the evening. which was awesome. However, I had this headache that started happening at the beginning of the day. At first, I thought it was because of the coffee since I didn’t drink any. But then I started to feel nausea and bloated. So I wasn’t sure. I also had practiced this day. So everything felt a little topsy turvy. Jumping with a full stomach of water was not a good feeling.
Wednesday:
Here is when things started to take a turn for the ABSOLUTE worst. So I did not start my first 32-ounce water bottle until 3 pm. Big mistake, starting that late made drinking water near impossible. I just wasn’t thirsty all day. I felt like I was forcing my body to drink liquid it did not want at all. I felt bloated. Since I started so late, my last bottle of water was after 10 pm. If I recall correctly it was at 11. I had to chug for the life of me at the end of the night. This made sleeping very difficult. I felt sickly and full and lowkey wanted to throw up all the water.
Thursday:
So the previous night I went to the bathroom probably 4 times throughout the night. So I woke up and started drinking water at around 10 am. I figured I would start later. so I could feel better. Thursday went a little better But I honestly did not want to drink water at all today. I fought through and was able to finish a little bit before bed. I still felt bloated throughout the day. That is the one thing that didn’t change and neither did my 3-day headache. The only positive I did notice was my skin didn’t need lotion after using my face wash. usually, my face wash dries my skin completely but it stayed hydrated which was nice and fewer pimples.
Friday:
I was doing a lot on Friday, but drinking water was slightly easier. I wasn’t worried about finishing it. I felt like I had a good head on my shoulder when it came down to finishing my water in time. I did finish a little later but I was watching Netflix in the evening which was a good motivator to finishing my water.
Saturday:
This was an absolute struggle bus. I had physical therapy in the morning which promoted my delay to drinking water. After I got back at around 3 pm I had only drinking 3/4 of my first bottle of water. The rest of the day until around 11:45 pm I was stuck drinking water and chugging. I was a nightmare. I not only felt bloated and sickly. Also… I got a pimple so I felt like I took a fat L.
Sunday:
My final hoorah, you would expect that I would learn from the foolish mistakes that I made throughout the week. But Alas, I did not. I finish my first bottle of water pretty early in the day…. which didn’t help. The reason is that I woke up late. So early is relative. I was chugging water all the way until it was close to midnight. This was sole because I was watching tv and totally forgot about drinking water and then was editing videos and watching videos. So I procrastinated.
Final Thoughts – Ending conclusion:
Through all of this, the only thing I really gained was a lot more trips to the bathroom and more than half of my sacred toilet paper lost. I do think that my skin got slightly clearer but I did get a new pimple during the week. I could probably blame the slice of cake I ate but who knows. I can say my bod was clearer of more toxins. My urine was definitely clear. My final thought would be that this is a lot of water to do when you are just in the house. I think it was a good intense cleanse of the system but definitely not something I would do every day for the rest of my life. Also, it is a lot harder when you are not being really active, currently, I am in an intensive recovery period due to the postponement of my season. sooooo it made it harder when my sweat levels differ. Also, I felt as though it just made me bloated and nauseous.
This whole experience was … just that…. an experience. I’m glad I tried it but I think I will be going down to 64 -96 ounces a day. Gallon is way too much.
I hope you guys enjoyed this very different type of blog post on As Told By Dom. I will see you guys next week with some more interesting topics around health and fitness.
